Being an At Home Web Designer is perfect if:

  • You want to make money.
  • You want to do more than answer phones, fill out surveys or transcribe.
  • You want to engage with people, but not 40 hours a week in an office.
  • You are creative, not necessarily artistically creative, but you can problem solve creatively.
  • You are a quick learner.

How much can I make?

The number one question - how much money can I make being an at home web designer.  Of course it depends on how much work you do, but you can easilly make hundreds to thousands of dollars a month, with very little overhead.  Starting out, you may only charge $1000 for a website, and the hard costs could no more than $100.  Charge for ongoing web hosting (at $20 / month) is an extra $240 / year with little to no effort on your part.

Can you really work from home as a web designer?  Is this another scam?

What makes working at home as a web designer different from so many other types of "work at home" jobs, is that it is a legitimate profession that tens of thousands of people do everyday.  Many like me, work in an office.  For years I was a contractor, working mostly from home, and going into a client's office for meetings.

Want to become a web designer, you can find 4 year degrees in web design.  Want to become a web designer, you can go to the bookstore and buy actual books on web development.  There is a legitimacy to being an at home web designer, that other work from home jobs don't carry. Another advantage is that you truly work for yourself.

I've divided the website into the following areas:

  1. Resources
  2. Web Design Basics
  3. Social Media
  4. Marketing

Start in the resources section of the site.  I've linked to some great resources for learning about web design.  Some resources are for things like billing, while others are site where you can download free templates that you can use in your designs.

Next, move on to the Web Design Basics.  Here is where I go over the basics of web design.  What you need to know to get started, from the software to basic terminology.

There is a vast untapped market for creating social media site for businesses.  So much so that Facebook just introduced an entire section of their website devoted to helping businesses create these pages.  There is nothing difficult in setting these up, once you've read through this section.

Marketing - how do you get sales in the door.  It will all start by looking close to home, and then its a matter of getting your name out there.  There are plenty of techniques, and I'll give you some great ideas for starting
